"I have a gym-sized duffel bag and a regular backpack. The contents of these two bags is worth at least 10 times more than all of their possessions. I write this from a hut built from leaves, wood, and metal scraps..." (See Experiences...)

Who we are:

Welcome to a Few for Change. What began as nine study abroad students searching for life travels turned into this project: raising scholarships for the children of the Comarca Ngobe in Panama. During our travels, we ventured to the comarca (a reservation for this indigenous group) and witnessed first-hand extreme poverty. Spending one night with these families was already extremely taxing. Through various discussions afterwards, we attempted to come up with a solution to escaping this endless cycle of poverty, to escaping these difficulties; we decided the best way was through education. Therefore, we, the students of SIT Panama, have decided that, although our numbers are small, we can significantly change the futures for some of those in need.

Why Education?:

We believe that the most effective way to transform a community is not through handouts, which historically have led to decreased sustainability of economic stability and have resulted in returning back to the endless cycle of poverty. Rather, we can enable people to overcome poverty by providing tools for individuals to propel themselves forward such as a quality pre-K through high school education.

Donating:

Donating money to large organizations often results in a huge percentage of our donations being lost in administrative costs, operational costs, fees, inefficiencies, etc. Our goal is to make our resources result in direct impact with zero loss in the extra costs often build into Non-profits. See How to Help for details.

We're college students, recent graduates, and most of all we're volunteers who just want to make a difference.
