The Ngöbe:

The people of the Comarca Ngöbe-Bugle have been pushed to from their lands for decades, only very recently attaining a land reservation in 1997. The Ngöbe people were originally nomadic, moving to cultivate new lands every few years, but population growth in Panama has forced dramatic changes in their lifestyles. Loss of land has led to overburdened croplands, and as a result, the Ngöbe people struggle on a daily basis to produce enough food for their families. Difficult terrain only complicates matters because support is costly and hard to achieve in the slippery mountainous areas. A lack of roads further compounds issues, creating isolated communities, communication problems and healthcare issues. The Ngöbe lack connections to the government and often don't have the ability to express their needs because of cultural and language barriers. Many families can't afford healthcare, education, a home, or basic sanitation.

Ngobe

Why Ngöbe?:

Our ultimate goal is to be able to help as many as we can with our funds, making the most out of our resources. During our travels, it seemed that the Ngobe people would most greatly benefit from this
program. In the future, we may look towards expanding, but we're taking it one step at a time.
