The constant travelling took a toll on both my physical and mental health. Straight from Japan to Panama, I had been away from home for half a year through a handful of different countries by the time I visited the Ngobe comarca. This stop, however, humbled me greatly and allowed me to regain perspective. I stayed with Celia, an elderly woman who had opted to care for many orphaned children of their region. As part of a semester assignment, I interviewed her on a number of topics; each, however, arrived at the same conclusion — the land did not provide enough food, she said. That experience, among many others, inspired us to find a solution to what seemed to be an endless cycle of poverty. We believe education to be the most sustainable and beneficial approach.
I finished my undergraduate studies at Emory University studying Mathematics and Music. Currently, I am a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
